How I Built a Premium Catering Website Entirely with AI — No Photographer Needed

A real case study: a catering business needed a professional website but couldn't afford a photographer. I used AI to generate every visual asset, built a cinematic Next.js site, and automated sales with a WhatsApp chatbot that takes orders, generates Mercado Pago payment links, and invoices through ARCA/AFIP.

The Challenge

SARITTA! is a premium catering business in Rosario, Argentina. They had a clear problem: they needed a professional website to grow their business, but their budget didn't include room for a professional photographer, a videographer, or a design agency.

Their products looked incredible in person — artisan triples, gourmet mini burgers, sourdough pizzas — but they had almost no professional visual assets. Just phone photos and a lot of ambition.

On top of that, they were losing sales because their ordering process was entirely manual: clients would message on WhatsApp, wait for a response, negotiate prices, and then figure out payment on their own. No automation, no payment links, no invoicing.

The brief was simple: build something premium that sells, without the premium budget.

The Solution: AI-Generated Visual Identity

Instead of telling the client they needed to invest in a photographer first, I took a different approach: generate the entire visual identity using AI.

Product Imagery

Using a combination of AI image generation tools, I created every product photo from scratch. The process looked like this:

  1. Reference gathering — The client sent phone photos of their actual products
  2. Prompt engineering — I crafted detailed prompts describing each product category with the exact aesthetic we wanted: dark, cinematic, shallow depth of field, warm lighting
  3. Generation & curation — For each product category, I generated 20-30 variations and curated the best ones
  4. Consistency pass — I ensured all images shared the same lighting, color temperature, and mood to feel like they came from the same photoshoot

The result was a cohesive visual library that looked like it came from a professional food photography studio — at a fraction of the cost.

Animated Hero with AI-Generated Frames

The hero section features a cinematic canvas animation built from 192 WebP frames. Each frame was generated using AI, creating a smooth parallax-like effect that plays automatically as visitors land on the page.

The technical implementation uses requestAnimationFrame to render frames on an HTML5 canvas at ~24fps, with fallback static images for slower connections. Different product categories each have their own animation sequence, and users can navigate between them.

Brand Design

The entire color palette, typography selection, and design system I crafted to match the AI-generated imagery:

  • Deep plum/wine (#AD1D32) as the primary accent — evoking gastronomic elegance
  • Pure black background — creating a premium, cinematic atmosphere
  • Playfair Display for headlines — serif font for sophistication
  • Inter for body text — clean readability

The Tech Stack

I built the website with a modern, performance-first stack:

  • Next.js 16 with static export for instant page loads
  • React 19 with server components where possible
  • Tailwind CSS 4 for a utility-first design system
  • Radix UI for accessible interactive components
  • Google Genkit for an AI-powered description generator tool

The entire site is statically generated and served from a CDN, resulting in perfect Lighthouse scores and sub-second load times.

WhatsApp Sales Chatbot: The Real Game Changer

A beautiful website is useless if it doesn't convert. The second phase of the project was when I built an intelligent WhatsApp chatbot that handles the entire sales funnel automatically.

Architecture

The chatbot is powered by an n8n automation workflow that orchestrates multiple integrations:

WhatsApp Message (via API)
    → n8n Workflow
→ AI Agent (Claude) for natural conversation
        → Product catalog lookup
        → Price calculation
        → Mercado Pago link generation
        → ARCA/AFIP invoice generation
→ Confirmation message back to WhatsApp

How It Works

1. Customer starts a conversation

A customer clicks the WhatsApp button on the website (or messages the business number directly). The n8n workflow receives the message via webhook.

2. AI understands the intent

The message is processed by Claude, which understands natural language requests like:

  • "Quiero 3 docenas de triples para el sábado"
  • "¿Tienen opciones veganas?"
  • "¿Cuánto sale el pack para 20 personas?"

The AI has full knowledge of the menu, prices, pack options, and business rules (48-hour advance notice, minimum orders, delivery zones).

3. Order confirmation and payment

Once the customer confirms their order, the workflow:

  • Calculates the total with all items
  • Generates a Mercado Pago payment link via their API
  • Sends the link back through WhatsApp with an order summary
  • Monitors the payment status

4. Automatic invoicing

When payment is confirmed, the workflow:

  • Generates an electronic invoice through ARCA (ex-AFIP) using their web services API
  • Associates the invoice with the customer's CUIT/CUIL
  • Sends the invoice PDF back through WhatsApp
  • Updates the internal order tracking system

The n8n Workflow

The complete workflow handles:

  • Conversation state management — Remembers context across multiple messages
  • Error handling — Graceful fallbacks when APIs are down
  • Business rules enforcement — Minimum orders, advance notice requirements, delivery zones
  • Handoff to human — Escalates to a real person when the AI can't handle a request
  • Analytics tracking — Every interaction is logged for optimization

Results

The numbers speak for themselves:

  • 85% of orders now come through the WhatsApp chatbot
  • Average response time dropped from 2 hours to under 30 seconds
  • Zero manual invoicing — every sale is automatically invoiced
  • Conversion rate increased 3x compared to the old manual process
  • Customer satisfaction improved dramatically — clients love the instant responses

Lessons Learned

AI-generated imagery is production-ready

With the right prompting and curation, AI-generated visuals are indistinguishable from professional photography for most use cases. This democratizes premium web design for small businesses.

Automation compounds

The WhatsApp chatbot doesn't just save time — it enables sales at hours when no one is available to respond. Orders come in at 11 PM, 6 AM, during holidays. The bot never sleeps.

Integration is the hard part

Building each individual component (AI chat, Mercado Pago, ARCA invoicing) is straightforward. Making them work together reliably in production, handling edge cases, and maintaining the system — that's where the real engineering happens.

Start simple, iterate fast

I launched with a basic menu and ordering flow, then added features based on real customer interactions. The AI conversation improved dramatically after analyzing the first 100 real conversations.
